![]() The toil of the workingman is the fascinating subject for this documentary from Austrian director Michael Glawogger. A film of few words but plenty of indelible images of people (mostly men) risking their lives with hardly a second thought.
First, we're off to Ukraine to learn about the work of some coal miners. Their work conditions are just unbelievable. Then, the director brings us to Indonesia to show us the hard work done by the sulfur miners (I didn't know nothing about this line of work). We are then transported to Pakistan, where we are shown the work of ship-breakers. Finally, we are shown the working conditions in the steel industry of China. Some of the conditions these men work in will come as a shock to the average office worker, and provides viewers with an important perspective on the harsh treatment meted out to certain factions of the workforce. Glawogger's camera is as unflinching as its subjects. Image making is work made visible. Visit the official site here . A extensive Interview is here... Find more Credit infos here.
